Five questions to ask before hiring a profile manager

Use this short checklist to compare providers while keeping control of your business information and budget.

For a residential cleaning company, your Business Profile may be where a potential customer checks your hours, service area, and recent reviews. You can manage the profile yourself for free. If you hire help, pay for a defined service and stay involved in decisions about what appears publicly.

Google advises owners to understand the provider's experience, get clear pricing in writing, monitor performance, and be wary of placement guarantees or claims of a special relationship with Google.

  1. 01

Who owns the profile and controls access?

You should retain ownership. Ask the provider which role they need, why they need it, and how you can remove access. A manager invitation uses their own Google Account; you do not need to share your password.

  2. 02

What work does the fee actually buy?

Google Business Profile itself is free. Ask for a written list of deliverables, limits, timing, and fees. Separate setup or catch-up work from ongoing upkeep so you can judge whether the service is useful.

  3. 03

How are facts and public replies approved?

Ask to see proposed hours, services, service area, posts, and review replies before publication. Give the provider verified business facts. Google requires owner consent for profile changes and explicit approval for review replies made on your behalf.

  4. 04

    What will the report show?

A useful report records what was proposed, approved, published, pending, or rejected. If performance figures appear, ask which are Google Business Profile metrics and what period they cover. Views and clicks are not completed jobs.

  5. 05

    What happens if you cancel?

Check the cancellation terms and how access is removed. Google says third-party managers must give customers an easy way to leave and relinquish access within seven business days after notice.

A simple comparison test

Ask each provider to show one example of the report you would receive and explain how they handle a disputed review, a changed service area, and a cancellation. A clear answer should name the decision you make as owner, the work the provider does, and the status you will see afterward.

No provider can promise a particular Google ranking, number of calls, or bookings. Compare the quality and transparency of the work you are buying instead.
